Easybreath Dive: Decathlon's New Way to Breathe Underwater, Explained by a Dive Centre

Henryk

Decathlon's Easybreath Dive lets you go 3 metres down with no tank on your back, and you can try it with us in Puerto de Mogán. Here's how it works, who it's for, and how it compares to snorkeling and a Discover Scuba Diving try dive.

There has always been a gap between snorkeling and scuba diving. On the surface you look down at the reef through a mask, holding your breath for every short duck dive. On scuba you are part of the reef, but first there's a tank, a regulator, a buoyancy jacket and a fair amount of theory.

In late August 2026 Decathlon launched something aimed squarely at that gap: Easybreath Dive. We've been asked about it a lot since, so here is what it is, how it works, and where it fits next to a real try dive.

What is Easybreath Dive?

Easybreath Dive is a guided underwater experience that lets you fully submerge to a maximum of 3 metres while breathing normally, with no tank on your back. It was developed over four years by Decathlon's teams and is run in partnership with PADI.

It is not a product you can buy. You can't pick one up in a Decathlon store and take it to the beach. The equipment is placed only with selected PADI dive centres, and every session is led by a PADI instructor. Spain is the first country to get it, with the rest of Europe planned for 2027.

How does it work?

The system has two parts:

  • The mask. An evolved version of the full-face Easybreath snorkel mask many of you already know. It keeps the 180° panoramic view, the anti-fog airflow, and the ability to breathe through both nose and mouth.
  • The floating air station. A quiet, patented compressor unit floats on the surface above you. It draws in outside air and sends it down a lightweight flexible hose to your mask.

This is a modern, compact take on surface-supplied air. You get the freedom of having nothing heavy strapped to you, and the hose length keeps you in the shallows.

What happens on the day?

Plan for about an hour and a half from arrival to finish:

  1. Briefing. How the descent works, what the site looks like, which species you may meet, and how to behave around marine life.
  2. Guided entry. You get in the water with your instructor and get used to breathing with your face submerged.
  3. Exploration. Around 30 minutes underwater at 1.5 to 3 metres, always in natural light and always close to the surface.

Bring swimwear, a towel and water. A shorty or wetsuit and fins are useful if you have them. Most centres can lend you what's missing.

Who can do it?

  • Minimum age is 12 years.
  • No diving experience is needed.
  • You fill in a medical questionnaire beforehand. Decathlon says the system should not be used by people with respiratory or cardiovascular problems, asthma, high blood pressure, heart disease or a current respiratory infection. If any of that applies to you, talk to a doctor first.

As a dive centre, we'd add one thing. Three metres is shallow, but you are still breathing compressed air underwater. The basic rules of diving, such as breathing continuously, ascending slowly and keeping your ears comfortable, apply here too. That is why a qualified instructor is part of the experience.

In short:

  • Choose snorkeling if you want a relaxed hour on the surface with the whole family, including younger children.
  • Choose Easybreath Dive if being underwater appeals to you but tanks and regulators put you off, or if you want a gentle first step.
  • Choose Discover Scuba Diving if you want the full experience: deeper water, more of the reef, real weightlessness, and a dive that counts towards a PADI licence.

Is it "real" diving?

No, and it doesn't claim to be. You won't reach the wrecks, the deeper volcanic reefs or the angel sharks resting on the sand at 15 metres. The hose keeps you in the shallows, and you won't earn a certification.

What it does is remove the biggest barrier we see in beginners: the moment of putting a regulator in your mouth and trusting it. Breathing through your nose in a mask you may already own a version of is much less intimidating. We expect many people who try Easybreath Dive to come up wanting to go deeper, and that is what the try dive and the PADI Open Water course are for.

Why Gran Canaria suits shallow-water exploring

The south-west of Gran Canaria has calm, sheltered bays, water temperatures of roughly 19 to 24 °C through the year, and good visibility. The top three metres hold a lot of life: parrotfish, ornate wrasse, damselfish, cuttlefish, octopus, and the occasional ray crossing the sand. You don't need depth to have a good day underwater here.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy an Easybreath Dive set?

No. It is only available as a guided experience through PADI partner centres.

Can I use my own Easybreath snorkel mask to dive?

No. The standard Easybreath mask is designed for the surface only. The Dive version is a different mask connected to an air supply.

How deep do you go?

Between 1.5 and 3 metres.

How long are you underwater?

About 30 minutes, within a 90-minute activity.

I'm nervous in the water. Is this for me?

It's designed to be slow and progressive, and the instructor works at your pace. You should still be comfortable in water too deep to stand in.

Where can I book?

Directly with a PADI partner centre. In Gran Canaria you can book Easybreath Dive with us at Delphinus in Puerto de Mogán, see below.

Ready to get under the surface?

Delphinus is a PADI partner centre for Easybreath Dive, and we run sessions from our base in Puerto de Mogán, in the calm south-west of Gran Canaria. No experience is needed, the minimum age is 12, and the whole experience takes about an hour and a half. Book your Easybreath Dive online (from €75 per person) or message us on WhatsApp at +34 607 054 715 and we'll find you a slot.

Want to go deeper afterwards? A Discover Scuba Diving session takes you to 12 metres with a full scuba kit, and if you'd rather stay on the surface, see our snorkeling trips.
